On April 8, 2016, The Garden Club of Virginia formally dedicated the Kitchen Road project at Monticello. Funded by the GCV and designed by Rieley & Associates, this important restoration serves to transform the mountaintop landscape. Preceded by multi-year intensive archeological investigations, the work reconnects the formerly divided landscape by reconstructing Jefferson’s Kitchen Road, realigning Mulberry Row, rebuilding the kitchen path, and extending the allee of Mulberry trees. An integral portion of Jefferson’s unique road system was recreated, revealing to visitors the mountaintop landscape as Jefferson envisioned it.
