Landscape architect Charles F. Gillette designed the formal garden of the Executive Mansion in the early 1950s for the late Governor and Mrs. Thomas Stanley. The restoration of the garden in 2000 complemented the newly renovated Mansion. Like many of Gillette’s projects, the walled garden is carefully detailed and richly planted. Archival information, including Gillette’s own plans and records as well as newspaper photographs of the garden at its original opening, guided the restoration.
